TCM for Children
A young child’s health revolves around their digestive system. All babies are born with weak digestive systems, which strengthen at different rates according to their genetic patterning, their environment and the food they are offered. Breast milk and modern baby formulas have sufficient nutrients to ensure a healthy baby, but if the digestive system is weak, even these foods may upset a baby’s health or composure. With the introduction of solids, foods are often chosen for convenience or variety rather than with the aim of strengthening the digestive system. TCM can strengthen and improve the digestive process in babies and young children.
TCM for Children – How it Works
TCM is effective and safe from birth. When diagnosing children, here at vitalessence we observe their face for any unusual colour or marks, their behaviour, as well as any other signs or symptoms reported by the parents. We also feel their pulse, or with very young children, we look at the vein along the index finger.
All these factors provide us with information regarding the state of the child’s qi. Treatment and healing is tailored to the uniqueness of each individual child and may involve specialised infant massage called Tuina, acupuncture (the needle is quickly inserted in the acupuncture point and immediately removed) and in older children, Chinese herbs. Response to treatment is usually quick and well received by the child.
